2014 BMW i3 nearly unveiled

On July 29th, the 2014 BMW i3 will make its world premiere at several venues across the world. Just weeks ahead of the unveil, test mules continue to be seen in Germany but this time wearing little to almost no camouflage.

The prototype seen here sports a grey paint job along with a new set of wheels that give the car a sporty look. Underneath the camo covering the headlights we can spot the full LED treatment the i3 will get.

Just as we have seen before, the glass doors seen on the concept are now gone and replaced by more traditional doors made out of carbon fiber.

BMW i3 is powered by a rear-mounted electric motor that’s putting out 170 horsepower (125 kW) and 184 lb-ft of torque. The i3 can cover up to 136 miles on a single battery charge, but the range can be increased up to 217 miles using an optional range extender. The i3 will be offered in two variants: a four-door EV and a coupe.

At 3845mm in length, 2011mm in width and 1537mm in height, the five-door i3 is 120mm longer, 326mm wider and 132mm higher than the Mini One.

Luggage room is said to be 14.1 cubic feet, split between the space behind the rear seats and the “frunk” under the hood. Initially, BMW plans to produce 40,000 units per year at the recently upgraded Leipzig plant.

The base price is rumored to be at around $ 40,000.
