2014 North American Car of the Year short list includes 2014 BMW X5 and 4 Series Coupe

The short list for the 2014 North American Car of the Year has just been announced and the new 2014 BMW X5 and 4 Series Coupe are included on this selective list.

The short list is composed of 12 cars and 12 truck and utility vehicles, including crossovers. The list of Car of the Year candidates covers a broad bandwidth of segments, from sporty coupes (BMW 4 Series, Chevrolet Corvette Stingray) and convertibles (Jaguar F-Type) to mainstream cars like the Chevrolet Impala, Mazda3, Mazda6 and Toyota Corolla.

On the SUV/Crossover list we have vehicles like the Buick Encore, Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, and premium vehicles such as the new BMW X5 and Land Rover Range Rover Sport.

GM has three vehicles up for consideration while BMW and Kia have two entries.

The next step in the process will end with just three finalists in each category. The winners will be announced at a press conference on the first press day of the Detroit Auto Show in January.
