Most likely a typo, but we still find it quite interesting that BMW makes a reference to a 4 Series Sedan model on their M5 minisite. “Open the doors. Notice the M door sill finishers with the BMW M5 logo and take a seat behind the M leather steering wheel. Close your eyes and let it all sweep over you – enjoy a cockpit in the stylish design of a BMW 4 Series Sedan.”
Rumors around around a new 4 Series family have been increasing in the past months. Sources close to the brand told BMWBLOG that the 4er models will fit between the 3 and 5 Series and will feature a coupe-like look. By offering a higher positioned coupe, BMW will compete on the market with Audi and Mercedes, which is said to introduce a smaller SLS model.
The new 4 Series will also allow BMW to price the vehicle slightly higher, at a premium price. The overall dynamic design would appeal to a younger demographic as well and will be a viable alternative to the high-end 6 Series Coupe.
In a nutshell, the 3 Series Coupe and Convertible will move up to the 4 Series family and will be joined by a four-door coupe as well. The 4 Series Gran Coupe is said to compete with the A5 Sportback and it will feature a coupe-like roof line. The 3 Series will continue to feature the sedan and wagon variants, along with a new 3 Series Gran Turismo.
For now, we wouldn’t read too much into the typographical error.
